MANUAL HANDLING & WORKING AT HEIGHTS TRAINING

About this course

If any of your employees undertake manual handling, be that by lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving items by hand or bodily force, it is a legal requirement that they are trained to do this safely.  

 

Half day course outline

  • To be able to define ‘Height work’

  • To learn about the legislation involved with Manual Handling and working at Height

  • To identify hazards and prevent accidents when working at height

  • To be able to select and use and inspect appropriate equipment when working at height

  • To understand type, causes and the effect of workplace injuries.

  • To learn and be able to apply safe manual handling techniques.

  • To identify hazards and how to avoid/ control them

The course uses a number of learning methods including presentation, demonstration, group discussions and practical exercises.

  • The law

  • Identification and assessment of risks and how to avoid them

  • Hazard spotting

  • Handling techniques – including a demonstration

  • Practical lifting

  • How to plan and organise working at heights

  • Appropriate equipment

  • Equipment inspections and reporting

  • Safe use of steps and ladders
