HJS Human Resources are thrilled to be supporting the Spire FM Local Hero Awards for another year!
The Local Hero Awards celebrates the work, commitment and dedication of those who make our community a better place to live; they really make a difference and help others. The awards give us the opportunity to recognise and reward all that they do, and no doubt inspire many of us to go that extra mile.
A recap on last year
At the 2019 Local Hero Awards, we sponsored the Charity Fundraiser of the Year. The award went to Wendy Lucas who raised more than £10,000 in 2018 for causes close to her heart. Despite having had a hip replacement, Wendy took on the following challenges:
Running the 2018 London Marathon in aid of the British Heart Foundation, completing the distance in 6hrs 51minutes at the hottest event on record!
Seven weeks later Wendy took part in a 350 mile bike ride around the battlefields of France in aid of Help for Heroes - she continued on even after a fall running left her with a broken rib during her training.
Wendy has also raised money for St John's Ambulance and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
She is also a keen volunteer at Salisbury Parkrun during which she has organised collections for homeless charity Alabare and the Women's Refuge.
The 2020 Local Hero Awards
This year we are proud to sponsor the Parent or Guardian of the Year Award. This award specifically highlights and celebrates the heroic efforts of a Mum, Dad or parent-figure who cares through thick and thin.
The winner will be announced at the awards Gala Dinner on Friday 24 January 2020.
Last years winner was Carmen Crook. Carmen was nominated by her foster daughter Elizabeth, who credits her with changing her life. Carmen was awarded for the love and support she has shown to those in her care.
